we're used to seeing the proverbial photographs from egypt: pyramids, ancient temples, camels and the nile...instead this small photographic journey into egypt is of its people... |
this site doesn't follow a geographic or chronological order, but is a random "walk" through egypt, sharing moments which I captured on camera... just follow the >> along and read it as a pieces of a traveler's journal...
it was february 1998, a friend of mine wanted to visit egypt and do the usual rounds of pyramids and temples... while i succumbed to my partner's wishes, sometimes he succumbed to mine, walking through parts of town tourists don't usually go through, such as cemetaries turned into shanty towns. so although i passed my time in egypt in the commonly touristy places such as cairo and luxor, i was out to see the country's everyday life...
as I was walking back to my hotel room in luxor, I decided to go through some back alleys. It was just after prayer time, and off in the distance was a tent set up in the middle of buildings... in the middle of the tent hung this tapestry. I saw the same motif in other tents later on...
